In 2014, the Cigna team is celebrating the 20th year of their national partnership with the March of Dimes and sponsorship of March for Babies. During this time, Cigna, the Cigna Foundation and the people of Cigna have contributed nearly $28.5 million to the March of Dimes. Cigna employees have led the way through their service on local March of Dimes chapter boards.
I am deeply proud of Cigna’s partnership with the March of Dimes. What makes our work together so special is the personal investment I’ve seen our employees make in the partnership. Over the past 20 years, the team has committed time and resources to help the March of Dimes make major improvements in prenatal care and support moms in having full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.
At Cigna, we are extremely proud of our Healthy Pregnancies, Healthy Babies® program for customers, which is based on information from the March of Dimes. In fact, nearly 90 percent of Cigna customers surveyed stated the Healthy Pregnancies, Healthy Babies® program helped them take better care of their health. It’s just one way the March of Dimes and Cigna are working together to make a big difference in the lives of the tiniest babies and their families.
Recently, I was struck by new research showing that bans on smoking in public places and the workplace in North America have contributed to a 10 percent drop in premature births. This new research is definitely a first step in the right direction, but we know that there is more work to be done. We are proud to support the March of Dimes as they continue to work with policy-makers at the highest level who recognize the need to implement laws like public smoking bans that support the development of healthy mothers and their babies. Together, the March of Dimes and Cigna are working to help more babies get a healthy start in life.
Yesterday at Exposition Park in Los Angeles celebrity volunteer Hilary Duff got ready to march for babies alongside Los Angeles MFB Host Crystal Egger from NBC4, our 2014 March of Dimes National Ambassador six-year-old Aidan Lamothe, and local leaders of our top national Team Kmart!
Thanks everyone who walked yesterday for babies!
The March of Dimes is thrilled to commemorate our special 20 year partnership with Cigna this year. A champion for babies, Cigna produced this super-cute & adorable video this year for March for Babies.
The video features Kaden Repoli, the 2014 March of Dimes Greater Hartford Ambassador, training for his March for Babies walk! Born almost four months early, Kaden weighed merely 1 pound 6 ounces. While in the NICU, Kaden received surfactant, a therapy developed with research funded by the March of Dimes.
We hope you enjoy this video as we appreciate our partner, Cigna, and their dedication to supporting the mission of the March of Dimes!
Singer and actress Hilary Duff, two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, supermodel Niki Taylor, and 3 million super volunteers and 20,000 companies have one common goal: they all March for Babies to help give every baby a healthy start.
Celebrities are again lending their star power to bring attention to this year’s March for Babies, the March of Dimes premier fundraising event that will take place in 700 communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico at the end of April.
For more than 75 years the March of Dimes has helped moms and babies. From Frank Sinatra to Super Bowl quarterback Joe Namath, major stars always have supported the Foundation’s work for stronger, healthier babies. Nearly 4 million babies are born each year in the United States and the March of Dimes has helped each and every one through cutting-edge research, education, vaccines, and breakthroughs.
March for Babies has been held annually since 1970 and has raised a combined total of more than $2.3 billion to help all babies get a healthy start in life. The goal for this year’s event is to raise more than $106 million.
“Thanks to all our volunteers. The support we receive from every volunteer is invaluable and celebrity support always has been a hallmark of our history,” says Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of the March of Dimes. “Today, thousands of companies and millions of people, including celebrities, sports stars, community leaders and families of babies born prematurely help support the March of Dimes work for stronger, healthier babies. I urge everyone to get involved with March for Babies by visiting marchforbabies.org.”
March of Dimes volunteers and staff visited the TODAY show this morning to raise awareness about upcoming March for Babies walks! Decked out in purple, volunteers brought posters showing their stories. Briana and Matthew Tortoso spoke with TODAY show correspondent Dylan Dreyer about their son JohnCarlo born 12 weeks early and shared that they are walking this weekend. It was a chilly morning but a great opportunity to help raise awareness about the March of Dimes mission!
