Be a Hero for Babies!

Today is Be a Hero for Babies Day and Farmers agents across the country are doing their part to help fight premature birth. Some know firsthand what it’s like to have a baby born too soon and very sick. Like Jennifer Azaira. Born 10 weeks early, Jennifer’s son Jaxson had to fight for his life in newborn intensive care. Thanks to research by the March of Dimes and the generosity of the Farmers family, his story has a happy ending.

And there’s Jim Mulligan, a Farmers District Manager from Los Angeles who was inspired by a friend’s experience with a premature baby. He soared past his $6,000 fundraising goal and inspired his agents to beat their best. But their real goal isn’t a number, it’s to help the families in their community.

For 25 years, Farmers agents and employees have shown an incredible commitment to helping babies. But their great results wouldn’t be possible without people like you.

Make your donation to the March of Dimes today to celebrate a hero in your life!

There are some great stories out there from Farmers agents being heroes for babies! Like this one:

Early on Saturday morning, April 28, Janet Trujillo-Landin, community relations specialist, joined other Farmers volunteers as part of the massive crowd expected at the Greater Los Angeles March for Babies at Exposition Park. “I have been walking for 18 years,” Trujillo says. “And my daughter has also walked at least 15 years, so it’s a family affair for us.”

More than 15,000 people turned out for the walk in Los Angeles. The event began when Faye McClure, vice president of Strategic Marketing, presented March of Dimes with a $1 million donation from Farmers. Then the crowd of men, women, children and even pets started walking the three-mile path.

For Farmers March of Dimes Ambassador mom and Home Office employee Arcie Esteban, it was her first, but not her last, March for Babies. Her son Elijah was born 28 weeks premature last year, weighing only 2 lbs, 11 oz. “The event was awesome,” Esteban says. “We had to get up at four this morning, but it was worth it.”

Be a Hero for Babies Day is just around the corner.  It is a day when Farmers agents will reach out in their communities and raise more than $2 Million to support the March of Dimes mission.

Heather Gilbert, District Recruiter for Farmers Insurance and Financial Services, joins all of Farmers in giving back to March of Dimes.  But for her, it’s personal.  In 1995 Heather gave birth to identical twin boys, born at 27.5 weeks gestation weighing in at only 2lbs 2oz. and 2lbs 3oz.  Sadly, only one of her sons, Daniel, survived.  In her own words:

“The March of Dimes is important because there are so many babies born early or with birth defects. These small babies can not battle for their lives alone. They need support and love; not only from their families but from the doctors and staff that care for them in the NICU. The March of Dimes is able to provide research, studies, education and community services to give babies like mine the fighting chance of survival.”

Farmers has an outstanding record of volunteer service, contributing time, energy, talent and financial resources to helping babies. Joining them and be a “Hero for Babies.” Your donation will be matched by Farmers dollar for dollar!* You can make your donation here.
