One way to avoid blisters

One way to avoid blisters

Annoying? Yes. Unavoidable? No! You don’t have to put up with blisters on March for Babies day. Just follow these tips.

Train. I know you don’t want to hear this. But if you’re not used to walking 6 miles, your body and feet have to prepare.

The right fit. Your shoes can’t be too tight or too roomy. Obvious, right? Still, most of us focus on the length and forget all about the width – just as important!

Sock it up! Many hikers swear by wool. But if your feet get sweaty, synthetic may be better. Go for breathable and seamless.

Something in your shoe? Stop and take it out. Those little stones can play a real number on your feet. Ignore them and you’ll pay the price.

If you’re planning on getting a new pair of shoes. Check out Famous Footwear’s official March for Babies shoes. They’re super comfortable… and they’re 10% off (not $10, thanks Claudine) with this coupon! Famous donates $5 of every purchase to the March of Dimes. Don’t forget to break them in before March for Babies day!

If you do get a blister, it’s better to leave it alone. If you burst it, you risk getting it infected. One last tip: pack some band-aids. A blister will be less painful after you cover it.

Any veteran walkers out there who can add their advice?

No… PLEASE DO NOT burst the blister… that can send more germs into the bloodstream ( I know , I made the mistake as a child)and that can cause a staph infection, which requires antibiotics to get rid of (usually I V)

Just another tip to prevent blisters. Wear socks with Coolmax or something like Thor-los that are acrylic. Anything but cotton socks. They get sweaty and rub.

I’v been thinking about training for this very special and important walk. The farthest that I have ever walked was at a mile or two. This is really going to be a challange for me. Except for my husband because he is a well trained military man.

Put Preparation H on your blisters. It dries out the fluid without popping the bubble. Good luck!

This is my 1st time walking for march for babies and the event I am in is 7.5 miles! I sure hope I don’t get any bad blisters because I have to work the very next day!!! Lol. But aside from all of that I am going to use the blister tips I have read on here! Thx to all of you for the great tips, it is really helpful for 1st time walkers like myself. I am so excited to be apart of this event! Just out of curiosity is anyone going to be doing the 7.5 mile walk at the Burlington Center as well?

Good luck everyone!!!

Another remedy to help with blisters and feet that crack, from OTC items. 1 tube of Zinc Oxide and 1/2 tsp of Benzoin Compound Tincture. Blend the two together and apply several times a day for five days. If you must cover it w/ a bandage, put the “compound paste” on the wound initially.

This prescription given by an Army doctor when my feet cracked open, was verified by a pharmacist. I now make it when I need it and I find that my children have used it too. It works!

Actually, the coupon listed is for 10% off, not $10 off. Just an FYI. It does come to about $6 off and there’s free shipping too. PS: I hate blisters!

I USE A WEIGHTED VEST TO GET STRONG FOR THE WALKS
I USE THE NYKNYC ONE AS IT IS FEMININE AND CAN BE WORN UNDER JACKETS ETC
IT HAS MADE ME DROP TWO JEANS SIZES AND I ALSO GOT TONED AND FIRM FROM USING THE VEST PLUS IT HAS BUILT UP MY STAMINA AND NOW I CAN WALK LONGER AND STRONGER.

One of the best things I found for blister prevention is Vaseline. I walked in the Breast Cancer 3-Day last year and my only blister prevention method was Vaseline and baby powder, and changing my socks every few miles. I ended up with one little blister on my heel because I ignored a hot spot.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST TRICK is 2 pair of socks. The first pair is something very light weight, like a pair of nylon socks or gortex that will wick the moisture away from your skin. Then a pair of cotton socks over those. The two pair of socks do the sliding past each other instead of one pair moving next to your skin rubbing the blister.
