Greek Life is Walking!

Posted by Volunteers

So Sunday morning I went to talk to the lovely sisters of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha. This weekend was their sorority’s national convention and they had almost 200 people in attendance. We talked about the March of Dimes and our mission, and of course there was a baby in the room! He chimed in with comments every once in a while, and really you couldn’t ask for a better “voice” in a presentation about us!

They are ready and excited for March for Babies 2009 and asked lots of great questions about getting involved. The St. John’s chapter is hosting a banquet for the March of Dimes, and some of their chapters have already held events. Want to get your Greek organization involved? Do it! Even if you’re an alum, wear your colors, show your pride and get out there and join us on March for Babies day. And maybe challenge those other Greek group on your campus to a little healthy competition.

Greek life is a great resource to get involved in March for Babies. At our walk site several Greeks come out in their letters and colors and show their pride!

Many Greek organizations have national philanthropies which they support. Most people do not realize that often these are simply suggested charities and that each individual chapter is able choose the charity that they support. So simply ask the Greek Chapters on your campus if they want to participate in your March for Babies. You may be surprised what comes of it. Fraternal groups which have chosen March of Dimes as their charity of choice are: Delta Sigma Phi, Gama Sigma Sigma, Pi Lamda Phi, Alpha Phi Alpha, and Zeta Phi Beta!

It was a pleasure having you speak at our event. It was inspirational to say the least! We look forward to contributing to March of Dimes through our National Blue Ribbon Campaign aimed at fund-raising and volunteering for the cause.

Thank you for coming to Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc convention this weekend. Through my sorority I have been involved with the March of Dimes since 1992! As one of my favorite community service projects I plan on being involved again this year. I am happy to say I am expecting my own bundle of joy in June and appreciate all you do to help babies!

The Gamma Delta Alumni Chapter of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. has established our team and have begun fundraising. Many Greek Lettered organizations are dedicated to one cause. What I love about SIA is that we are dedicated to our community at large and find time to help many different causes that effect us as women of color. We also have a very active Alumni group who have dedicated their time and attention to their community.

We hope to make our Blue Ribbon Campaign as success and we am very excited to participate in the March for Babies Walk at UCF on Sunday, March 1st.

Keep fundraising…
