Calling All Volunteers!

Posted by Volunteers

Hello volunteers! I’m Melanie, your volunteer connection for March for Babies.  You’ve surely already figured out, March for Babies is the BEST volunteer gig we’ve got going!

There are tons of ways you can help…and that’s what you can learn about here.  Stay tuned for cool ideas that will make your walk day great for you and for babies. Be sure to also let me know how you’re marching this year so we can share how you’re making a difference and inspire others to get involved!

Remember, the March of Dimes history of success rests in the power of volunteers…and so too does our future.  Thanks for all you do for babies!

I would like to volunteer again at the Belmar NJ site. I usually volunteer with you and then help later at the food tent with Steve Crabtree.

What occurs at the Belmar NJ site?

Thanks for the extra help! Every March for Babies site needs volunteers like you. Go to the site below to find the local office nearest you then call or e-mail with your offer to help — they’ll be thrilled to hear from you. (http://www.marchofdimes.com/chapter_view_all.asp)

What’s going on in Belmar? Tons of fun…just like at all March for Babies sites. Most walks have a rally at the start of the walk with music and more to get volunteers fired up. And at the end, there’s usually a great celebration with stuff like free food, other giveaways, activities for kids, etc. Don’t miss this feel-good day in your community!

i’m an avid scrapbooker with my own scrapbooking business. is there any way to use this passion for March for Babies?

Absolutely!!! First, if you’re not a team captain, register as one! Recruit family and friends to walk and fundraise with you. Then one way you can support their fundraising is to have them host a scrapbooking party for their family and friends…you donate the proceeds to your M4B team. Bonus…anyone who comes to the party would likely throw in $10 for the mission and might also register for the team and fundraise more! Snowballs are great in winter (depending on where you live, of course)…and the snowball effect is the best way to raise money!

I was a neighborhood volunteer, sent out letters and mailed in the responses. I received a very late contribution but no longer have an address to which I can mail the contribution. Help!!

I worked in the city of Rocklin, CA 95765

Like last year, it’s not necessary to register online to volunteer, right?

Maria, you do not have to register online. You can do it “manually” with the hand written registration form attached to sponsor envelopes. If you didn’t receive that, you can call your local chapter to get one. That said, THE BEST WAY to register and to fundraise IS ONLINE. Quick and easy. You can reach more potential sponsors all at once, etc. You can track online and cash and check donations all in one place on your personal page. If you ever have questions about using the online systems, just post a comment in the Online Fundraising blog. Thanks!

Any suggestions on how to recruit more volunteers? We are a small walk and currently have a committee of two, yes I said two people. I would like some ideas on how to get more people involved. Thanks!

Mary, we love hearing that you have checks to turn in! The local March of Dimes office in your area is: 1755 Creekside Oaks Drive, Suite 130, Sacramento, CA 95833. Thanks so much!

Sharon, first, please remember that every walk counts, no matter how large or small. It’s awesome that you’re taking charge! Are you looking for volunteers for your committee or team captains and walkers? I have some ideas for both, yet each is different…so let me know so I can post the most helpful. Best, Melanie

Volunteers for the committee at this point, we seem to be doing okay with the team captains and walkers. It’s very difficult for two people to pull off all the wonder walks & coin box distributions that we do for all the schools not to mention the actual walk itself. I would appreciate any suggestions that you have. Thank you. ~ Sharon

Sharon, try putting out a call for help to all your family team captains. Especially for the school stuff, this is a great way for parents and kids to go the extra mile for babies! Surely there are also plenty of moms on that list who’ve planned plenty of parties and might help with after-walk family activites, some may even have leads for face-painters, clowns, etc who might volunteer their time on march day. And how about all those sports teams and clubs that parents drive their kids to non-stop? Lots of boy/girl scouts use March for Babies as a service outing. My son asked is hockey team walk and then help with clean up. How about your own team members and sponsors, past or present? In these tough ecomonic times, many people can give of their time for the event even if they can give little or no money this year. Good luck…hope some of this pays off for you…keep me posted! Best, Melanie

What a great program … I’ll start a fundraiser auction at adventures4charity to raise donations for the March for babies right away. Anyone can combine a personal adventure with great fundraisers at that website, so that’s how I’m going to help.

I am a volunteer in my area. our walk is in May but I am trying to come up with a recruitment event… something that will bring families out for a fun time, raise money and we can use it to recruit new teams….
