March of Dimes Mom, actress Melissa Joan Hart, helped kick off March for Babies with her ABC Family  Melissa & Joey co-star, Joey Lawrence!

As celebrity chairs for the Los Angeles March for Babies, the two hosted the annual Los Angeles March for Babies kickoff breakfast that was held at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center this week. Thomas M. Priselac, President and CEO, Cedars-Sinai Health System, is the 2011 Los Angeles March for Babies Chair.

Melissa has been a celebrity volunteer for the March of Dimes since the delivery of her two healthy sons, Mason and Braydon.  She invited Joey, father of two girls, when his youngest, baby Liberty Grace, was born 6 ½ weeks early with Rh disease and spent critical time in the NICU.   Both are committed to helping raise awareness and funds for March for Babies and they encouraged everyone to join together for stronger, healthier babies!

It is so amazing to see people who are in the spotlight giving props to foundations, like March of Dimes, that deserve the good word. As a mother of a preemie who was born twelve weeks early, I know that March of Dimes had a big hand somewhere in her life, to make her able to have a life. It takes people who many people know about to get the word out about what needs there are in this world. Melissa and Joey both are amazing for uplifting this foundation.
Thank you for all you do!

My 30 week prematured 4 twins babies had been treated wrongly in the big private nicu in thailand. APGAR score were 10-10 6-8 6-8 9-9.Weigth 1300-1400 g. RDS/RDS/SEVER IRDS/RDS. no “surfactant”in any conversation or med record. PDA were large and medicine were given too late/ too little dose / too long between dose in order to fail the closure treatment. i sue them and are going to testify in Thailand court on 2nd March 2010. Many rich families came to this hospital and got a CP child. They gave unecessary mech ventilators with hi O2 and make babies health worse and charge high bill and leads too unecessary surgery and long hospitalisation period. They claimed that no indication to give SURFACTANT. They claimed that they RESUSTITATE my kids with 100% O2. This case will set a legal standard in Thailand on the proper Neonate care on SURFACTANT and PDA closure. Will you possibly help us in any way such as documentation video testimonial or any person in Thailand or doctor who can help me.

Its great to see people raising money for this cause. Lots of people don’t even know what a NICU is. I’m guilty I didn’t know what a NICU was until my son was born 14 weeks early. He was born January 4, 2011. He is still in the NICU and doing very well thanks to his doctors/nurses and his strong will. March of Dimes offers support groups for families with preemie babies, amongst other services to help families in the difficult time.

I am the third generation in my family line that has been involved with the March of Dimes. My twin girls were born 16 weeks early. One did not make it and is in heaven but the other one is here with us and will be 5 in March. Has some medical issues but is doing well and enjoys life. That would not be possible if not for the research of the March of Dimes/doctors/nurses. My son was also 4 weeks early and needed CPAP and Surfactant for his underdeveloped lungs to survive. We are greatful and have a wonderful family. I hope more people become involved and help out and spread awareness.

@Tiffany, my son was born on January 4, 2005 at 25 weeks gestation. I am so thankful for the staff in the NICU where he was born. Hang in there! Your child will do great… (and our kids share a b-day!)
