Helping Haiti’s Moms and Babies

Posted by Linda

From Dr. Christopher P. Howson, Vice President for Global Programs at the March of Dimes:

The massive earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, has devastated the entire country. As with any disaster, moms and babies are among the most vulnerable.

The March of Dimes is deeply concerned about the thousands of pregnant women and moms caring for infants and children.

The tragedy this week requires a special response. We are providing a grant to UNICEF dedicated to meeting the urgent needs of Haiti’s moms and babies.

I am glad to see this blog and was sure that March of Dimes would be there to help! I have seen the pictures on TV and noticed many, many small infants. I can not imagine what conditions are like as a mother of a small child. I would like to help raise funds for this particular mission in my hometown. I have decided to post on my facebook page this information:

If you want to donate immediately, text the word BABY to 20222 and your phone will be charged $5.00 for a donation to the March of Dimes.

There are millions of people in the United States that have a Cell phone. Therefore, if each person could find it in themselves to text the word baby to 20222,which will reflect a five dollar charge to the cell phone bill. The thousands of mothers and babies in Haiti will receive the care needed.

I can only imagine the devestation we see on the internet and news comes no where close to showing us the massive life changing event that the people of Haiti have went through. I have a daughter who is 3 1/2 years old, so I can feel the pain in every single parents eyes who have lost loved ones from this earthquake. The March of Dimes is a great organization, and I fully expected them to contribute their efforts to the mothers and children dealing with this tragedy. As posted by Debbie and Gary, please do what you can by texting the word “baby” to “20222”. Lets come together and bring the smallest bit of light to an extremely dark situation.

The March of Dimes provides another opportunity for people to help with the tragedy in Haiti. One can only imagine the conditions that the people in Haiti are forced to endure right now. The March of Dimes provides an opportunity for people to help pregnant mothers and infant babies in Haiti receive the help they need by providing sanitary supplies and medicine.

I feel that this a great way to help and get involved. The fact that March of Dimes has donated to victims in Haiti is quite remarkable. I know a lot of infants and children have been rescued and brought to the states and they need this kind of support!

I am so glad the march for dimes is caring for the kids in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I also seen the damages on line and was very emotional about families that was out of contact with others. I’m working with my school at Robert Morris University to help raise money in my community, and help in any way that I can. I’m so proud of this non-profit organization and I hope that we as people help this organization be around for a long time.

I am very happy to see that the March of Dimes is helping the mothers and children that were victims of the earthquake in Haiti. It is comforting to know that an organization that has proven to make huge differences in many peoples’ lives is contributing to this disaster. I fully support the March of Dimes and hope to see the organization grow as time goes on.

It is unfortunate that it took an event of this magnitude to bring attention to a place that has seen its share of suffering for many years. But, with organizations like the March of Dimes we too can feel part of global effort that has directed its attention on rescuing families, rebuilding communities, and restoring hope to the people of Haiti.

I am glad there is a foundation that is available to help infants and mothers in such a time of need. I hope that people open their hearts and realize the need for donations to help with medical cares and concerns.

I think it’s great that the March of Dimes helps families not only in our local communities, but also in other countries when their help is needed the most. It is going to take years to rebuild Haiti, so they can use all the help we can give. This gives me one more reason to be proud to support the March of Dimes.

How do we reach our to the parents and children than are brought to the US. I am interested in making blankets. I own a sewing business and trying to see how can I reach out in other ways. Any Idea. I know we can’t send anything there.

What a great way to spread the word! I would be interested to know the number of premature births in third world countries such as Haiti. With all of the turmoil and chaos, it is very easy to lose sight of even the most minute things like a baby being born. I think it is a wonderful idea that the March of Dimes is teaming up with UNICEF to join the effort in Haiti.

I think what the March of Dimes in doing in Haiti is a wonderful thing. Two years ago I had the chance to visit a third world country and I found that living is such conditions are much more difficult than the conditions that Americans live in today. To imagine a third world country having to endure such tragedy is devastating. The efforts of the March of Dimes to donate money to those pregnant mothers and babies in Haiti should make a dramatic impact to help provide food, water, shelter, and medical aid. Although it will take months to clean up debris from the disaster, many mothers and babies can be thankful that the March of Dimes has stepped in to provide help at a time of desperate need.
