Thank you Microsoft!

The March of Dimes would like to thank Microsoft for its incredible donation to support our IT services!  Made last night at the 31st Annual March of Dimes Gourmet Gala and valued at $7.5 million, Microsoft’s donation includes licenses for software used by our employees and licenses for central servers that will allow us to operate more efficiently and cost-effectively.  Read all about it on Microsoft’s blog!

We Will March On

Posted by Linda

EDIT: Check out all the variations on the image above or make your own here!

All of us at the March of Dimes were deeply touched and concerned by the explosions at the Boston Marathon on Monday – our hearts and sympathy go out to the families of those who were affected. As March for Babies events approach, we want to assure our dedicated community that the safety of your family, friends, and coworkers is our top priority and we are working closely with local law enforcement to make sure your event is safe and secure.

In the wake of this tragedy, we recognized the need to enhance security at our upcoming March for Babies events and to communicate with the public about our plans. We have contacted local law enforcement and confirmed their commitment to ensuring safety at our event. We have also updated our own emergency preparedness plans and shared this with all staff across our organization. We will also have a moment of silence at our March for Babies events to show our solidarity with the Boston Marathon victims.

We are grateful to our volunteer leaders, corporate sponsors and walkers for supporting our decision to move forward with our planned events. We thank all of you for your perseverance and dedication as we move forward with our mission. Babies still need your help and we hope you will join us as we celebrate our wish for a healthier future for our nation’s children.

It has been a very exciting day for March of Dimes National Ambassador Nina Centofanti! She is in Dallas attending pre-race festivities for tomorrow’s running of the FedEx #11 March of Dimes car at Texas Motor Speedway. Dressed like a driver herself in a special FedEx team fire suit, Nina got to introduce herself to Danica Patrick! In support of March for Babies, Nina joined FedEx in asking fans to vote for their favorite March of Dimes paint scheme. Nearly 30,000 votes were cast and the winning design for this weekend’s “FedEx No. 11” car will debut this weekend! Watch it in action Saturday on FOX at 6:30 PM CST, and see the video below of the car being wrapped for the race!

Maximize your contacts, encourage donations, and motivate your team to reach your March for Babies goal!

Maximize your contacts, encourage donations, and motivate your team to reach your March for Babies goal!

Looking for ways to boost your fundraising efforts? Not sure how to motivate your members to reach your team goal? Check out these tips and strategies to help you reach (and excced) your individual and team fundraising goals! And remember, every chance you interact with someone is an opportunity to promote your passion and dedication for stronger, healthier babies, and an excellent way to encourage someone to support our mission.

Maximize Your Contacts:
Utilize email signatures and badges to expand your network. Include fundraising badges in your email signature and use banners on your website, blog or Facebook page to promote your efforts to friends and families.

Update everyone on how close you are to your goal to encourage additional donations. Send emails and letters to those who already donated thanking them for their support and updating them on your fundraising efforts. Follow up with people who were interested in donating, but haven’t yet committed. Use benchmarks in updates and on social media, such as “I’m just three $10 donations from my goal!”

Encourage Donations Everywhere You Go:
Download the iPhone & Android App to take your fundraising with you. Tap your way to your best campaign by seeing up-to-the minute online donations, adding cash and check donations and getting the latest information on March for Babies all from your mobile device.

Accept credit cards, in addition to cash and checks, by utilizing the mobile March for Babies website, in order to give people more options to donate.

Keep Your Team Motivated:
Send updates to your team every week and include both the team’s progress and share stories from those with a connection to our mission, such as our National Ambassador’s Story. If your team is walking for a specific family, include a special message from the family.

Build team spirit by setting up a day to make signs and t-shirts for the day of walk. Arrange for a pre-March for Babies pizza party or outing. Go the extra mile and offer a party as a reward to the whole team if you collectively reach your goal.

Highlight members (fundraising leaders, those who received matching gifts, and/or members who reached a specific milestone in fundraising) through word of mouth, print and at your next team meeting. Create competition by awarding those who raise a certain amount of donations by a specific date with free coffee or homemade baked goods.

Remember, your efforts and the donations raised are helping babies, everywhere. Remind donors that by donating to your walk they are giving to those who are too young and too little to ask for it.

Now let’s hear from you:
What advice do you have for teams and individuals trying to reach their goals?

Thalia for March for Babies

Latin recording superstar Thalia lends her voice for America’s babies! When you walk in March for Babies, you give hope to the more than half a million babies born too soon each year. The money you raise supports programs in your community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. And it funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies. We’ve been walking since 1970 and have raised an incredible $2 billion to benefit all babies.

If you haven’t already, REGISTER to walk in a March near you! You can walk with a team, create your own, or walk as an individual walker!

Special Guest Blogger!

I had the pleasure of meeting our National Ambassador, and she is awesome! Nina Centofanti was born 9 weeks early and weighed just 2 lbs., 15 oz. Now she’s 8 and traveling the country with her family to encourage everyone to get involved in March for Babies. She stopped by my desk with her big brother and little sis to give me an autographed card with her picture and story on it. Nina was full of smiles and enthusiasm.
Her mom, Chris, is our guest blogger:

Hi everyone, it’s Chris Centofanti.
As you might know, my daughter, Nina, came into the world 9 weeks early and weighed less than 3 pounds. I’d worked as a nurse in the NICU for 14 years and had seen this experience a million times. But nothing prepared me for the moment I saw my own tiny, tiny baby. I felt so guilty for not being able to bring her to term and be delivered safely. And I worried about so many things…her lungs, her brain, infection. I’ve seen lots of babies die.

There’s no doubt that we are among the lucky families. Nina is completely healthy and astounds us every day. We never forget the fact that, were it not for decades of March of Dimes research, her story could have been very different.

Nina is a perfect example of what the March of Dimes has accomplished. It’s truly a gift for me to be able to share our story and be an advocate for premature babies. I’m grateful, humbled and honored to participate in March for Babies, and I hope you’ll register and start fundraising. It’s so important to support the work of the March of Dimes and help every baby be born healthy and as close to term as possible.

Please don’t forget to sign up and donate to March for Babies!
We need to help babies everywhere!
Thank you, and take care,

United is the official airline sponsor of the National Ambassador program.

One of the best ways to understand the mission of the March of Dimes is to hear someone’s personal connection to our mission – the stories are heart wrenching and inspiring all at the same time. Many of our national partners recruit their members who have a connection to our mission to serve as Ambassador Families during their March for Babies Campaign. The involvement of members in this capacity can provide a deeper connection to our mission for the entire organization and motivates members to go the extra distance when raising awareness and funds for the March of Dimes.

Organizations such as Jack and Jill of America, Zeta Phi Beta, Phi Beta Sigma and Sigma Gamma Rho have all recruited families at the chapter, state, regional or national levels to help spread the message about their organization’s efforts to improve the health of babies.

An Ambassador Family is one who has benefited from March of Dimes research or programs, and is willing to share their personal story with members of their organization by speaking at meetings, writing emails and sharing on social media such as Facebook. Do you or someone in your organization have a personal connection to our mission? Share your own story with your members and/or encourage others to serve as the Ambassador Family and share their stories with your organization. In addition, feel free to share the story of our 2013 National Ambassador, Nina Centofanti.
