Kmart and the March of Dimes hosted the first-ever Babies on Broadway event Wednesday, April 20, to bring attention to March for Babies nationwide! This city walk kicked off in Times Square with a crowd of volunteers, supporters, Broadway stars and little babies drawing much attention in front of a 12 foot replica dime supplied by Kmart, March of Dimes National Sponsor and Top March for Babies team! The crowd then walked together downtown to the Kmart store at Herald Square. March of Dimes 2011 National Ambassador, Lauren Fleming, age 7, and her family helped lead a great day on Broadway!

Katie McGee, Entertainment and Traffic reporter for March for Babies media sponsor station CBS 2 in New York, helped lead the Babies on Broadway send off! The event brought together Kmart and March of Dimes supporters to raise awareness and donations for March of Dimes, which works to give all babies a healthy start.
For 28 years, Kmart has supported March of Dimes and raised more than $90 million – and counting! This success comes with thanks to Kmart’s generous associates and customers. The 12 foot dime will be rolling into select Kmart stores across the country – just in time for a March for Babies near you!
Grammy Award winning recording artist Kelly Clarkson made a stop after her appearance on American Idol this week to join in the Dallas March for Babies, along with her friends and 30,000 walkers, to support the March of Dimes and the mission of healthy babies on Saturday, April 16!
A March of Dimes volunteer and celebrity ambassador since her inaugural American Idol win, Kelly has walked in March for Babies in Nashville before. She and her fans have also been engaged in our mission awareness and fundraising campaigns.
On Saturday, she got to meet some special volunteers from Dallas who have supported the March of Dimes in a big way, including Cedric Allen and his family. Cedric is the #1 fundraiser for the Dallas March for Babies, raising over $25,000!
Kelly also spent time with top March for Babies teams and Ambassador Families who share their story and connection with the March of Dimes, encouraging others to get involved with this special cause.
After a special guest appearance on stage, Kelly and her friends joined the many Texans to walk a sunny five miles through White Rock Lake Park.
Mission signs and beautiful photos in honor and in memory of babies showed the way through the park, connecting all walkers to the reasons they were all out there fundraising and walking.
Many thanks to Kelly and her team for supporting the March of Dimes year after year, and for helping give the Texas March of Dimes event a special treat with her appearance!

Although Facebook no longer allows the March for Babies badge to appear on your profile page, we continue to look for ways to make the application better. A big part of that is listening to you!
Well, Facebook just won’t allow us to bring the badge back to the profile page, but we have made some changes to the application in the last few days to help you reach your fundraising goals!
One of the biggest changes is we’ve updated the ‘home’ tab. You now have 6 easy ways to get the word out and fundraise for March for Babies!
1. Post to your wall: Let everyone who comes to your profile page or reads your news feed know you’re walking and how far you are from your goal
2. Post to friends: Got a Facebook friend you want to make a personal appeal to? Use this button to write directly on their wall and simultaneously post to your own
3. Walk with me: Get a friend to join your team and walk with you–fundraising strength in numbers!
4. Send application: Know someone who is walking but needs some help? Send them the app
5. Create panoramic: The new profile layout may have removed the profile badge, but with one click you can change the pictures on your profile page to let everyone know you’re walking in March for Babies
7. Tweet it: Also on Twitter? Connect to your Twitter account and let your Tweeps know you’re walking in March for Babies
And you can still access the game, send emails, update your profile picture and story on the ‘game’ tab. If you already have the application installed, the changes will appear automatically. If you haven’t tried it out yet, you can get it here!
As always, let us know what you think!
Do you use the email signature badge to fundraise? The email signature badge is a cool tool that, when installed, appears at the bottom of the emails you send from your email account. It automatically updates with your fundraising bar and links back to your personal page.
But did you know there are now two types of email signature badges? The first is a standard badge that anyone can use. The second is for folks who are dedicated to raising more than $1000 for March for Babies.
So check them out by logging into your March for Babies account and clicking on “Get Your Custom Fundraising Badge” on your dashboard.
They are a great way to help extend your fundraising efforts!
Having trouble? Let us know and we will help you out!
Remember to cheer on NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin in the FedEx #11 car dedicated to March of Dimes in support of our 2011 March for Babies! Denny will race this special car tonight at the Texas Motor Speedway. Look for the purple and black scheme designed by eight-year-old twin brothers, Josh and Jake Aron of Dallas, TX!
Jake and Josh, serving as special ambassadors for March of Dimes Texas chapter, will enjoy special VIP access to the race along with their Dad Jaime, Mom Lori, and big brother Zack. The Arons have been an active family team since shortly after the twins were born at 23 weeks weighing less than one pound each. The Aron family is thrilled to be part of this once in a lifetime opportunity!
In addition to the super slick black and purple scheme, FedEx had both Josh and Jake’s actual footprints at birth enlarged and placed on the back to help push the #11 car to victory. Denny and his team say the car shows up great on the track!
Many thanks to March for Babies national sponsor FedEx, Denny Hamlin and Joe Gibbs Racing for the creating this once in a lifetime experience for two March of Dimes mission ambassadors. Let’s hope it brings good luck tonight! The race begins tonight at 7 p.m. ET. Look for coverage on FOX Sports.

We bump into each other. You mention that you’re walking in March for Babies this year and maybe I want to help out?
Let’s assume I can, and will. Obviously I’m a nice person, but I just may have a couple of other reasons to give you a donation.
1. I can use the tax deduction, either that or I’m in a hurry
2. I know you, I like you and I want to help
3. I am touched by your story and want to help
4. I want to feel good about myself and you’ve just given me the opportunity
5. I feel I have a lot to be thankful for and want to give back
6. I like doing something that could change a baby’s life
7. I have always given to the March of Dimes – this was an easy sell
8. I feel connected and want to be a part of this community
If I’m a number 1, take the money and run (okay, thank me first). Number 2-5, you want to treat me right. If I can, I will certainly help you again next year. Number 6-8? This is what you need to find out!
You told me something about yourself, now try to learn something about me. Who knows, you may end up with a new walker and fundraiser on your team. And you can help me find other opportunities to contribute.
Many of you have commented on this blog how donations are great, but people want to help out in other ways, too. Just like you are doing.
Did you shoot for a donor and end up with an active supporter?
Today’s update comes to you from a recent Q&A with XinLei “Tony” Wang, the current Key Club International President and a March of Dimes volunteer. Key Club, a national service partner of the March of Dimes, is an international high school student-led organization and we are so excited to have their support! Tony, along with many other Key Club and Kiwanis International members, will be walking this spring for stronger, healthier babies!
Q: So, Tony, how is your role with Key Club International connected to the March of Dimes?
A: Key Club International encourages its’ clubs to support March of Dimes, one of our most outstanding service partners. Aside from participating in March for Babies events, I disseminate important updates on new resources and training webinars to be shared with our Board of Trustees and local leaders.
Q: What motivated you to volunteer & participate in March for Babies and for March of Dimes?
A: One of the defining moments in my involvement was when I toured a NICU during the March of Dimes Volunteer Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. This tour allowed me to understand the profound significance of my time dedicated to March of Dimes. When I walked in, I noticed – in the eye of a tired mother rocking a small baby – a sense of hope and appreciation. We toured the unit while listening to the nurse describing each piece of equipment made possible with the funding from March of Dimes.
March of Dimes makes a tremendous impact on our world. I strive to be involved in March of Dimes because I feel the possibility to make a significant impact in the lives of others.
Q: Why do you think it’s important for youth to be involved in March for Babies & March of Dimes?
A: Prematurity has a tremendous impact on the life of a baby. I think that youth should understand the importance of a healthy start for a baby. Our passion and enthusiasm can inspire others to believe in the March of Dime’s mission, raising awareness and adding new volunteers and leaders.
Q: What’s your favorite March of Dimes memory?
A: I really enjoyed a workshop [from the March of Dimes] called Hot Topics Related to Our Prematurity Campaign. The speakers were very knowledge and explained progress on the work to reduce prematurity rates across the United States. I appreciated the fact I was able to learn what projects our club fundraising efforts support. I was able to share the information with Key Club members and encourage them to continue their support of March of Dimes.
Q: And finally, tell us your #1 fundraising tip!
A: Know why you are fundraising for March of Dimes. Before explaining it to others, I think it is important that we have that sense of the purpose ourselves. Explain to potential donors why you believe in the cause. People want to know why they should support March of Dimes and what the fund will support. It’s possible that they just might take up fundraising themselves!
Thanks Tony for your insight, and all Key Club International members for supporting the March of Dimes and joining us in March for Babies! Where are you walking with your Key Club, or any other team, this spring?
I can’t tell you how many times I come to MarchforBabies.org to look up a friend’s personal page and their URL goes right out of my head. Thank goodness for the search box on the home page! It is one of the easiest ways to find a personal page on MarchforBabies.org.
All walkers have the option of hiding or showing your page in the search results. Do you show up? To check your settings:
- 1. Login to your account
- 2. Go to your personal dashboard
- 3. Click EDIT PROFILE
- 4. Scroll down to the bottom and choose “Show my personal page in March for Babies search results?” (Yes/No)
